Autopsy Shows African-American Teen Kendrec McDade Was Shot Seven Times By Police
Last March, police received a report that a taco truck in Pasadena, California had just been robbed. According to a recently released autopsy report, the two officers who arrived to investigate this report ran down and eventually shot a young black suspect seven times:

Nineteen-year-old Kendrec McDade was shot at point-blank range by one Pasadena police officer and handcuffed after being struck by a total of seven bullets, according to the autopsy report released Friday by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office… . Three of the wounds — two in his abdomen and one in his right arm — are considered potentially fatal because they lacerated arteries, according to Pasadena police. One bullet entered through the back of the right arm and another the back of the right forearm.
McDade, of Azusa, was killed when Pasadena officers Jeff Newlen and Mathew Griffin responded to a report of an armed robbery at a taco truck in northwest Pasadena. One of the officers pursued him on foot and the other from his police cruiser.
The first officer who fired did so while seated in the patrol car as McDade approached with his hand at his waistband. McDade and the officer were “within a foot” of each other, according to the autopsy report.

It is not yet clear whether McDade was actually involved in the taco truck robbery or if he was merely a bystander. It is clear, however, that the police who shot McDade did so under a cloud of false information. McDade was not armed, and the alleged theft victim later admitted that he lied about his assailants having weapons in order to provoke a faster response by police.
McDade also does not fit the profile of the kind of person who would normally commit armed robbery. He has no gang ties or prior arrests, was a star football player in high school, and was a student at Citrus College at the time of his death.

i get the point of showing that this was a kid who did not fit the profile. but i have to say, even if somebody DOES fit the profile, does that make it ok to shoot and kill him? are tacos really that important to us? or the small amounts of money that a taco truck might bring in? i’m beyond tired of the idea that war criminals like bush/cheney need to be “brought to justice” but some kid stealing the register at a dollar store or from a taco truck—fuck it, just kill him. saves on the paperwork.
if bush/cheney get to be recognized as human beings who deserve the human right to a trail no matter what atrocities they’ve committed? then the most criminal people of color who ‘fit the profile’ to a tee get to have the same thing. and if that takes up more space in the bureaucracy of the prison industrial complex? or that makes a cop have to train harder so he can keep up with a running suspect instead of just shooting the jesus out of him? so fucking be it.

A thing that happened in Crash actually happened in real life, sort of, except way worse, and this happens all the time. I’m gonna go be sad now.

Dear God-
Please do not place any little brown boys in my womb. They may be borne and yet die before their mother and father.  Slaughtered for the crime of being born a black boy. I can’t live with that kind of pain.

I asked a young White woman why she was studying social anthropology. She replied that she was hoping to go to Zimbabwe, and felt that she could help women there by advising them how to organize. The Black women in the audience gasped in astonishment. Here was someone scarcely past girlhood, who had just started university and had never fought a war in her life. She was planning to go to Africa to teach female veterans of a liberation struggle how to organize! This is the kind of arrogant, if not absurd attitude we encounter repeatedly. It makes one think: Better the distant armchair anthropologists than these ‘sisters’.

Elisa Castillo Gets Life In Prison For First-Time Drug Offense

“Few will argue that Elisa Castillo — a 56-year-old grandmother — is a high-level drug cartel kingpin, but she’s spending more time in prison than many who are.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Castillo is serving life in prison without parole for a first-time drug offense.

She maintains she was tricked by a Mexican resident who wanted to start a bus company running trips between Houston and Mexico. The prosecution insists she must have known that the buses were being used to transport drugs because, as the Chronicle explains, significant amounts of money and drugs were repeatedly found on the vehicles.” Click link to continue reading

These devils out here lying, acting like the people ain’t dying
We silver and they gold, ain’t never saved a soul

We seeking for forgiveness and safety for our children
Don’t get caught up in no throne, don’t get caught up in no throne
Don’t get caught up in no throne, Allah is in control

Oh Hell No! “‘Think Like A Man’ is banned in France for ‘lack of diversity’ “

“Think like A Man is arguably the most successful black film of 2012, raking in $85 million in U.S. ticket sales since being released in April. However, the film has been met with harsh criticism oversees, and is banned in France, due to the predominately African-American film’s “lack of diversity.”

According to Global Voices writer Fabienne Flessel, “Surprising as it may be, the answer lies in the fact that the film has an all-black cast. French cinema is often pointed at for not fairly displaying all components of the country’s multiethnic population. French cinema is often pointed at for not fairly displaying all components of the country’s multiethnic population. Although the recent success of the movie Les Intouchables, which earned French African actor Omar Sy the Cesar award for Best Actor in 2012, caused great pride and hope among French nationals from Africa and the Caribbean, it was not to be the turning point for a deep and lasting change.”

This has been the second major race-based controversy in France in just the past few weeks. Last month the first ‘Miss Black France’ pageant sparked controversy within the French community. Critics of the contest claimed it was “stupid” and “detrimental to French values.”

The banning of Think Like A Man in France due to a lack “diversity” is ironic because there are several American and international films with all white casts that have been released in French theaters this year. Titanic 3D, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett, American Reunion, starring Jason Biggs, Tara Reid, and Chris Klein, and Mirror Mirror, starring Julia Roberts, have all hit French theaters in the past year.

'Help me,' homeless man begs as cops fatally beat him in videotaped incident - CNN.com

A graphic video played at a hearing Monday to determine whether two California police officers should stand trial in the beating death of a homeless man showed them kicking and punching the mentally ill man as he lay on the ground — screaming in pain and begging for help.

The victim, Kelly Thomas, died five days after the beating on July 5.

Manuel Ramos, a 10-year veteran of the Fullerton, California, police department, is charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter, while Cpl. Jay Patrick Cicinelli faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and felony use of excessive force in the same case.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

When people are mean, we have to be especially careful not to blame our bodies. There is nothing about us or our bodies that deserves scorn or derision. Take special care to honor your body and its wondrous capacities and gifts. The problem lies outside of you and your body, with the bullies and the forces that benefit from fat hatred.

The HAES Files - Stereotype Management Skills for HBO Viewers (regarding new series The Weight of the Nation)

This whole article is super important, but I quite liked this little bit about body blaming.
